Yuna Kim – Queen on Ice
She is the princess of South Korea . During the 2004-2005 season, She placed second at the Junior Grand Prix Final, earning Korea’s first international medal in the history of figure skating.Making her senior international debut in 2006, she came to prominence when she claimed two gold medals in a row at the 2006-2007 season and 2007-2008 Grand Prix Finals. She has been called the perfect skater, the full package, by figure skating experts around the world. She leaped ahead in her figure skating career in May 2007 Cup Of Russia setting a world record ,133.70 points while skating to the musical Miss Saigon with perfect techniques and presentation skills .She became the only figure skater to earn more than 8 points in Program Component Scores.Scores. Yuna Kim broke the world record again with a total of 228.56 points, en-route to winning the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.She was honored with the highly coveted Sportswoman of the Year Award by the Women’s Sports Foundation.
Yes she is none other than the “Queen on Ice” , Yuna Kim. A huge celebrity in South Korea , without which an insight to the Korean culture would be left incomplete , I thought of dedicating this blog to Yuna Kim before she goes for the final at the Sochi Olympics this month.They say talent hits a target no one else can hit. Genius hits a target no one else can see. Yuna Kim proved it . Looking back to her childhood days, When it was not an outgoing women society , and figure skating as a sport was somewhere hidden from all in the dark , the journey was surely not an easy one . Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in himself has a certain obligation to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it till it can be developed no more.According to Yuna her sheer success is not only the outcome of her hard work and dedication but also something she realized came naturally to her as if she was made for it .Not only a lady of expertise in her art Yuna is also a strong and determined personality . Once in her dark time long back she encountered a severe back injury , and went through a severe medical treatment . People around her almost gave up on hope .But Yuna’s determination and passion made her believe that one can do something extraordinary, and something that a lot of people can’t do. And if you have the opportunity to work on your gifts, it seems like a crime not to. I mean, it’s just weakness to quit because something becomes too hard. In no time she came back with flying colors and from then the journey of winning never stopped . She is an inspiration to me and many others , and if reading this fills you with a new energy and determination , stay tuned not to miss her last performance in the Sochi Olympics 2014 .
