Popular Animal Themed Cafes in Korea You Should Visit
Koreans, especially students and employees, love to spend their time having a cup of coffee and a slice of cake in the coffee shops or cafes. When you visit Korea, you can find coffee shops or cafes spreading around the city. They serve the same things, such as coffee, cakes, even main courses. But Korea doesn’t only have such regular cafes, but also themed cafes. In this post, I’m going to specifically list down the animal themed cafes in Korea. It’d be a new experience to enjoy a cup of coffee while playing with your favorite pets. So here are 4 popular animal themed cafes in Korea you should visit.
1. Hello Kitty Themed Cafe
There are some branches of Hello Kitty Cafes in Korea. They are in Hongdae, Sinchon, Incheon Airport, Samcheongdong, and I found one in Eunhaengdong, Daejeon. Named as Hello Kitty Cafe because the entire cafe is fulfilled with the furry and cute Hello Kitty character. The cafe wall color is dominated by pink and furnished with cute chairs and tables. The prices of food and beverages are quite affordable and reasonable. This Hello Kitty cafe is different with the one in Taiwan where you have to find a set of menu. In Hello Kitty Cafe Hongdae, you just need to order your desired beverages or only the dessert choices.
2. Cat Cafe, Myeongdong
This Cat Cafe is located in Myeongdong, the hippest place for youngsters in Seoul. If you’re a cat lover, make sure to visit this cafe to have lunch while playing with the furry, cute, and benign cats. This cafe is located on the 4th floor, so you have to ride an elevator to reach this cafe. You need to pay 8.000 won for the entrance fee and you can stay and play with the cats as long as you would like. Plus you’ll get a free drink. Before stepping inside the cafe, you should take your shoes off and change them into slippers. The cats are vary and you can feed them by buying their food at the cafe.
3. Thanks Nature Cafe, Hongdae
Have you ever imagined to pet a REAL sheep in Seoul ? Yes, you can play and take pictures with these fluffy animals while dining with your friends or someone special. Yep, you can visit ‘ Thanks Nature Cafe ‘ in Hongdae. They have plenty of sheep staying in the cafe. This cafe is more widely known when Super Junior’s Leeteuk and actress Kang So ra filmed ‘ We Got Married’ program in this cafe. This cafe offers various food and beverages. From the review I’ve read, the price is a bit pricey, but it’s worth with the quality of the food and beverages which are served. But, when you want to visit the cafe and play with the sheep, you should make sure that the sheep ‘schedule’ is available. Customers usually contact the cafe staffs through Thanks Nature Cafe’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TNcafe whether the sheep is available or not. When the weather is getting warmer, the sheep will be returned to their farm in Gangwon-do so they can enjoy fresh grass that they can’t get when the weather is cold. So don’t forget to contact the cafe before visiting our fluffy friends.
4. Bau House Dog Cafe, Hongdae
If in the first and the second we have cat themed cafes, now we have a dog cafe for all of the dog lovers. The cafe is named as Bau House Dog Cafe. The ‘ Bau’ is taken from Bauhaus. It is located in Hongdae and it has been opened since 2001. Similar to Thanks Nature Cafe, the prices in this cafe is also a bit pricey, but it’s worth for you to stay with the dogs as long as you’d like. The beverages prices are between 6.000 won – 8.000 won. They serve teas, coffees, milkshakes, and even juices. The dogs come from all breeds and sizes, from poodles until golden retrievers ! The dogs are very friendly with the customers. When you take your seat, maybe one of them will hop on your lap and stay there while you pat their head softly. You also can purchase treats for the dogs so they’d love to play with you more.
Anyway, when you want to play with those animals, make sure your hands are clean enough. Usually those cafes will ask you to disinfect your hands before playing with the animals. So by disinfecting your hands, you also help to keep them healthy. These cafes also teach us to love our pets more and be responsible while taking care of them. If you have time to stay longer and play with the animals, why don’t you visit them in their ‘houses’ ? They will warmly welcome you!
