Overview of role: As editor-in-chief for GlocalNews, you will be in charge of all editing duties for The Jeju Weekly, our local English language newspaper. You will set the newspaper content, guide the newspaper design, and organise freelance writers and assignments. You will also lead other GlocalNews media projects such as newsletters and event materials.

GlocalNews: We are a media company based in Jeju. Our English language newspaper, The Jeju Weekly, was founded in 2009 and Jeju China, our Chinese language newspaper, was founded in 2011. We also manage English, Chinese, and Japanese-language websites focusing on news and travel about Jeju Island. We also publish books and promotional materials as well as specializing in translation and editing. Our office is in Jeju City, Jeju Island.

Key duties:

–  Editing the newspaper;

–  Newspaper reporting;

–  Newspaper planning and strategy;

–  Proofreading and editing of documents;

–  Managing the website;

–  Managing a team of freelance writers and photographers.

Experience: You will have at least two years’ journalism experience writing with further experience in team management a plus. Applicants living in Jeju are prioritized and knowledge of Jeju culture is an advantage.

Skills:

–  Native speaker of English;

–  Exemplary article writing;

–  HTML website management;

–  Korean language skills an advantage.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a BA degree (journalism or media an advantage).
